That is a fragile thing to build a study habit around, and a strange place to send everything you are trying to learn.

An assistant that lives on the phone

Local AI downloads open models once through its model browser and runs them on the device itself. After that, explanations, summaries, translation and brainstorming work anywhere - no connection, no account, no usage cap waiting to cut you off the night before the exam. Models range from 0.5B to 12B parameters, so there is a size that fits almost any phone.

Free means free

There is no subscription tier to unlock and no per-question billing. The models are open-source, the app is free on Google Play, and nothing about it is metered. For a budget built on part-time shifts and instant noodles, an assistant that costs nothing and asks for nothing fits about as well as things get. The only real cost is a few gigabytes of storage for the model you pick - and most phones have room for that.

Use it to learn, not to outsource

A phone-sized model is good at the practice side of studying: explaining a concept three different ways, quizzing you, rewording a dense paragraph, talking through a problem step by step. It will not ace finals for you - but students who use it to understand the material tend not to need that anyway. The model is patient, never tired, and does not mind the tenth question.
