Three fixed opponents have to serve every player who will ever install the game, which means none of them fits anyone for long: easy goes boring, hard goes stale, and medium is a coin toss. Fixed difficulty guesses who you are on day one and then never revises the guess.

A difficulty that starts by watching you

HandyAI Games replaces the menu with a brain that learns. In its first games it mostly imitates - watching how you handle boards, which risks you take, how you recover - so its opening level is imported directly from yours. A beginner's brain plays like a beginner; a sharp player's brain arrives already armed. The difficulty is set by the only person who actually knows it: you.

It keeps pace after you improve

The failure mode of fixed difficulty is the plateau - you get better, the opponent does not, the game dies. A trainable brain grows the other way: self-play rounds let it keep finding new lines between your sessions, so improvement on your side is met by improvement on theirs. The opponent has a training montage too.

Correction without a settings screen

When the brain picks up a habit you dislike, the fix is a thumbs-down rather than a difficulty re-pick - direct feedback that steers the policy on the next moves, with thumbs-up keeping what it does well. It is a difficulty slider you operate move by move, inside the game it affects.

Fixed opponents still have a job

The honest case for fixed difficulty is measurement, and HandyAI Games keeps it exactly there: the AI League's reference bots are constant-strength opponents run through seeded seasons precisely so progress stays comparable.
